2009-2010 - A Great Publicity Club Season

Dear Pub Club friends and members…

Wow, what an incredible year this has been!

New Publicity Club Executive Administrator

It is my pleasure to announce that Susan Vaillancourt has joined the Publicity Club of New England as executive administrator.

Facebook Has Over 500 Million Users

Believe it or not, Facebook announced it signed up its 500 millionth user on Wednesday. The company launched in 2004 and it took them almost 4 years to sign up 100 million users, so this is quite a milestone.

20 Things I Learned from the Boston Business Editors

The last program for the Publicity Club of New England occurred June 14 at Cambridge’s Sheraton Commander Hotel. The “Meet the Business Editors” event was moderated by Tina Cassidy of Solomon McCown & Company and panelists included Eric Convey, managing editor of the Boston Business Journal; Shirley Leung, assistant managing editor/business of The Boston Globe; and Frank Quaratiello, business editor at the Boston Herald. Despite two additional panelists missing, the program was fantastic, very informative and smarter questions posed unlike past events.

Every time a Bell rings...

Hollywood has the Oscars, Broadway the Tonys, but 300 of New England’s top PR pros gathered together on Monday night could only mean one thing…the 41st Annual Bell Ringer Awards.

Catching up with Adam Novak

With this year’s Bell Ringer Awards quickly approaching (Monday, June 7), what better time to catch up with last year’s Young Professional award winner, Adam Novak of PAN Communications? Adam, who won the crowd over at last year’s dinner by thanking his mom, will be presenting the award to this year’s winner, passing the torch on to the next PR up-and-comer. I caught up with the PR star to discuss the field and his future (sans mom).  Here is what he had to say:

Will you watch Google TV?

Venturing into web-TV integration, Google unveiled ‘Google TV’ yesterday, saying it will “change the future of television.” The platform allows users to search for content from their TV, web and DVR and is very similar to the way Google search works. Isn’t this nuts? It will also have voice recognition, so you can say “Modern Family” and voila, watch away. The home screen also allows you to organize content (such as shows you've recorded on your DVR). Devices will be on the market this fall (available at Best Buy), just in time for the holiday shopping season (pricing has not been announced as of yet). Google isn’t the first company to integrate web and tv content – other competitors include TiVo (TiVo Premiere), The Boxee Box and Roku.

What are your thoughts? Will you be changing the way you watch TV?

Hey, BP: Stop the Blame Game

How many people can remember the details of the Exxon Valdez oil spill?  It's likely that most can't, at least not without doing a Google search.  Most remember just one thing--that Exxon left a big mess.

With the recent oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, BP Global is deadling with its own mess, or that of another company, as its executives told Congress today.
