Several years ago, I worked on an account team for a large, publicly traded company. When I first joined, the client was on a high: the stock price was soaring, they were beating out competitors, and the CEO touted excellent sales numbers on earnings calls.  It was an exciting time to be there and I was proud to be a part of the team.  However, soon after that, we found out that the CEO and other executives were involved in an ugly accounting scandal that not only tarnished their reputations, but proved to be the downfall of the company in the coming years.  Long story short – the executives weren’t honest and eventually they, and the company, paid for their mistakes.

Last week the Publicity Club of New England held its consumer media program at Thomson Reuters in Boston. Panelists discussed the best ways to pitch the media, as well as how to target outlets for the holidays. Panelists were Audrey McClelland, lead blogger of Mom Generations; Courtney Hollands, Senior Editor at Boston Magazine; Karen Pevenstein, PR Manager for Staples; Leigh Harrington, Editor of WhereBoston, Sabrina Strelitz, Freelancer for RI Monthly and Stuff Magazine and a former editor at InStyle Magazine.
